The Structural / Modular Construction Estimator I is responsible for reviewing project plans and preparing detailed cost estimates for fabrication projects, including structural steel, miscellaneous metals, custom fabrications, and modular construction. This role involves evaluating subcontractor quotes, negotiating pricing, and collaborating with internal team members, engineers, and clients to clarify requirements.  This is a fast-paced environment where you will have the opportunity to leverage emerging technology, learn, grow, and develop new skills.  

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Project Estimation:
    • Assist in preparing cost estimates for industrial construction projects, including material take-offs, labor and equipment costs, subcontractor bids, and other project expenses.
    • Collaborate with senior estimator to ensure accurate and competitive project pricing.
  2. Bid Preparation:
    • Support the bid preparation process, including the development of bid proposals, bid forms, and supporting documentation.
    • Prepare detailed and organized bid packages for submission.
  3. Cost Analysis:
    • Assist in analyzing project costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
    • Review project plans and specifications to understand project requirements.
  4. Vendor and Supplier Relations:
    • Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to obtain pricing, quotes, and bids for materials and services.
    • Maintain a database of qualified vendors and subcontractors.
  5. Estimating Software:
    • Utilize estimating technology and tools to perform accurate quantity take-offs and cost calculations.
    • Stay current with industry-specific estimating software.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project documentation.
    • Generate reports and summaries as required for estimating and management purposes.
  7. Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and designers, to gather information and ensure accurate estimates.
    • Participate in project review meetings and provide input on estimating-related matters.
Qualifications:
  • Technical degree, associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or related industry experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in construction or fabrication shop environment and have been exposed to material take-offs and estimating, preferably in the industrial construction sector.
  • Ability to read and understand drawing, 3D model navigation, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication or construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
